I am currently a Ph.D student with department of computer science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). My advisor is Dr. Xiaohu Guo. My current research mostly focuses on computer graphics and related topics. More specifically, my research intrests include physics-based computer animation/simulation, deformable model, medical imaging analysis and visualization. Most of my research projects are done with C++, OpenGL, Cg, Matlab, Maya and sometimes, a little bit of Cuda.

I was a research intern at Microsoft Rearch Asia during March to June, 2012. I was also a part-time research assistant at UT Southwestern medical center at Dallas during the years of 2010 and 2011. During 2005 to 2007, I was a research asistant at University of New Brunswick, Canada. I got my bachelor degree of computer science in 2004 from Jiangnan University, then one year MS student at Hohai University.

My name reads like Yin & Yang  in Mandarin if you read my first name first, which is a very famous concept in Chinese philosophy and also one of my main inspriration in my research and life.

Selected research projects

Multi-domain subspace deformation

Extremely fast deformation simulation algorithm using domian decomposition. Subspaces are built locally with carefully-designed bases which do not cause any locking and over-constrainting problem. FE mesh over 200,000 elements can be simulated in real-time!  [video1] [video2] [video3]

Visualization of human's tongue

Physics-based visualization combining modeling reduction and motion capture techniques: fast and plausiable visualization can be provided in real-time for specified speech task. Comprehensive deformation analysis tool is also equipped in the framework including linear elastic energy based (nonlinear) shape morphing and segmentation of deformation. [video]

GPU-aided lung tumor tracking

Fast tracking lung tumor for patients with radiation therapy. Precisely and very timely tracked tumor movement pattern could help dose delivery with higher accurately. Less damage is induced to patient's other healthy  organs with this technique. 1000 time performance acceleration is achieved with GPU based summed area table. [video]

Spectral hybrid simulation

Modal analysis for deformable model does not only help with model reduction but also extracting rigid motion modes. By assigning only rigid modes to regions of the FE mesh, fast hybrid simulation effect can be achieved. This is a natural extension of linear modal analysis with nice and symmetric formulation for both rigid and deformable regions. The properties of fast simulation of modal analysis is also perserved: yes, it is real-time. [video]
