Academic Bridge Program

About ABP

Geared toward high-performing students who didn’t receive a university-track curriculum, the Academic Bridge Program (ABP) helps high-potential, first-generation college students complete a college education.

The program provides advising, mentoring and tutoring to students making the transition from high school to college.

High school students who are selected for ABP begin their college career at UT Dallas during the summer following their high school graduation.

Established in 2000, ABP serves approximately 160 students each year. Most come from urban neighborhoods in the Dallas area and are the first in their families to attend college.

How ABP Works

As an ABP student on the first day of the summer program, you will take a math assessment test and be placed in sections for calculus, pre-calculus or college algebra based on your score. The first day also includes orientation, registration and book distribution.

You will start attending classes the following day. All students take math, rhetoric and ABP seminar.

Classes run Monday through Thursday. ABP conducts a weekly meeting each Friday, giving you an opportunity to discuss your experiences and allowing the ABP staff to follow up on your progress, address issues or concerns.

All ABP students are required to attend math tutoring every week. The math tutors will meet with you individually and hold weekly review sections.
