Master of Arts in Literature

The Master of Arts in Literature degree program is designed both for individuals wishing to enhance their knowledge of and skills at the study of literary works, their forms, ideas, contents and contexts, and for those intending to pursue a doctorate in a related field. Thus, students seeking the MA in Literature have two options, a “research” or a “professional” option. Students with plans for doctoral study should choose the research option.

Literature is an interdisciplinary program of study. Besides coursework in Literature, all students must take two seminars each in both History/History of Ideas and Visual and Performing Arts. Students pursuing the research option may, if their coursework supports it, submit a translation or creative writing project as part of their portfolio project.
