Confucius Institute Holds Summer Chinese Language Teacher Training Workshops
July 26-27, 2014
Confucius Institute held its annual summer Chinese Language Teacher Training Workshops in JO4.614 on July 26-27, 2014. Ninety eight Chinese language teachers from local schools attended the workshops.
The one and a half day workshops were led by Professor Yanhua Ma and Professor Quan Yang, two Chinese language teaching specialists from the Beijing Normal University, China. Professor Ma specializes in teaching Chinese as a second or foreign language. Her lectures focus on “How to resolve the difficulties of teaching Chinese characters” and “Assimilation theory analysis and its application in learning Chinese phonetics.” Professor Yang is an expert in modern teaching technology. Her lectures feature what modern technologies and resources are available to Chinese teachers and how to apply them. Both professors’ lectures are vivid, resourceful, and informative. After the workshop, many teachers told CI’s staff that they really enjoyed the lectures and benefited a lot. They thanked the Confucius Institute for, once again, providing such a wonderful training opportunity for them to learn something that is really useful and practical in their teaching practice.
The workshops came to an end at 12 o’clock on Sunday noon. All attending teachers received certificates respectively issued by the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas and the Confucius Institute Headquarters.
Dr. Dennis Kratz, dean of the School of Arts & Humanities at UT Dallas, and Dr. Mingdong Gu, director of Confucius Institute attended the opening ceremony on Saturday morning. Dean Kratz made a welcoming speech to the teachers and said that he appreciated their consistent support for the Confucius Institute.
This is the sixth consecutive year that the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas held the Chinese teacher training workshop in summer.
