Description of Course:
This course provides an introduction to the history of Asian Americans from the nineteenth century through the present. We will focus on the histories of East, South, and Southeast Asians in the United States, exploring patterns and similarities in experience, while also addressing differences along the lines of nationality, class, gender, sexuality, generation, and family. The course will focus on the topics of race and racism, labor, immigration, citizenship, and resistance. An emphasis throughout the course will be on cultural contributions of Asian Americans including literature, film, the arts, and comedy.
