Course Title
Topics in Visual Art: Mobile Photography

Description of Course:

This 2000 level course introduces students to basic camera functions and operations which will be explored using the ubiquitous smartphone. Apps for iOS and Android will be discussed to develop an effective digital workflow, from multiple approaches to image capture and editing to post-processing and sharing, as well as a discussion of contemporary photographers working with mobile technologies. Principles and elements of design within photography will be applied as students explore social media platforms and photo sharing sites. Through creative projects, emphasis will be placed on single image capture, but sequencing and stop motion may also be introduced.

Required Texts:

Technical Handbook: provided by instructor, available online. 
Other textbooks to be announced.Students will be required to supply their own smartphone with a camera sensor of at least 10 megapixels.

Students may obtain Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Creative Suite CC—see UTD technology store for UT discount--OR Adobe Lightroom for use on their home computer and will be responsible for the costs of print output and storage media.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Command of general computer skills and file management skills for a MAC or PC operating system is expected.
