Spring 2020 - Undergraduate Course Descriptions
Description of Course:
This studio art course provides instruction in digital photography, emphasizing the relationship between digital imaging processes and color photographic techniques. Readings and class discussion will address contemporary issues in art and digital photography. Assignments will require the generation and alteration of digital photographs, with some emphasis on montage processes. The course includes instruction in camera operation, lighting, image editing software, and output for print and web.

Students must supply their own DSLR or Digital single lens reflex camera or micro 4/3rds or mirrorless camera for use in this course (i.e. Nikon D3500, Canon Digital Rebel, etc.). Digital cameras should provide control over shutter speed and aperture settings. Questions regarding cameras should be directed to the instructor.
Students may obtain Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Creative Suite CC—see UTD technology store for UT discount--OR Adobe Lightroom for use on their home computer and will be responsible for the costs of print output and storage media.
Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:
Prerequisite: ARTS 1316 or ARTS 2316 or ARTS 2350 or ARTS 2380 or ATCM 2301 or ATCM 2302 or consent of instructor. Command of general computer skills and file management skills for a MAC or PC operating system is expected.
