History of Texas

Description of Course:

This course surveys the history of Texas from the pre-Columbian period to the present. Topics to be covered include: Native Americans, Spanish Texas, Mexican Texas, the Texas Revolution, the Republic of Texas, the Civil War and Reconstruction, the cattle industry, the oil industry, the Progressive Era, the Great Depression and World War II, and modern Texas.

Required Texts:

1) Required Textbook: 5th edition of "Beyond Myths and Legends: A Narrative History of Texas" by Howell, et al. (Abigail Press)

2) Required Textbook Supplement containing primary source documents and mini-biographies: 5th edition of "Texas Voices" written and edited by Volanto (Abigail Press).

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

No course prerequisites; for the semester we will have 3-4 exams, several quizzes, and 3-4 homework assignments.
