Spring 2011 - Undergraduate Course Descriptions
Description of Course:
A unique non audition choir of 50-60 singers that combines UTD students and singers from UTD community (Richardson/Plano/Dallas area), including alumni and UTD professors. Students can invite family members and friends to join the choir as long as they are not UTD students. Repertoire is selected from sacred and secular music from the Medieval Age to the 21st century. Emphasis is on the joy of singing good choral music. Singers benefit by improving their singing technique, music reading skills and knowledge of music while learning to inspire others in a live performance. The Choir is open to all singers who are interested in singing challenging music in a wide variety of styles and periods. In the Spring we generally sing a larger work with orchestra accompaniment.
Music is provided for students. One should purchase a 1" 3 ring binder.
Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:
Students will be expected to learn their part and contribute towards the choir’s efforts to prepare an entertaining performance. Students will be graded on the progress they make towards a successful performance of the work during the Arts Festival. Class attendance, class participation, and practice outside of the class are strong indicators of success. Since this course involves direct communication with guests of UTD, students must represent the highest standards of class room behavior.
