Fall 2011 - Undergraduate Course Descriptions
Description of Course:
This class is designed for the piano student who wishes to advance after at least one semester in Piano I at UTD or who may have had prior piano training. Students will develop theory concepts, major and minor scales, arpeggios, and a variety of other keyboard skills. A variety of resources will be made available for individual study, including online listening materials, music dictionaries, and theory software. For practice, students will have access to the keyboard lab and several other rooms on campus with acoustic pianos. Class time will consist of lecture, demonstration, discussion, group exercises, individual coaching, and performance.

Basic Principles in Pianoforte Playing by Josef Lhevinne or Piano Technique by Walter Gieseking
Bach 2-part Inventions
Additional repertoire will be assigned in the first week of the semester.
Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:
Grading: Attendance and participation 20%, Preparation of exercises and repertoire 30%, Written assignments 20%, Recital Attendance 10%, Final Jury/Recital 20%.
