Fall 2011 - Undergraduate Course Descriptions
Description of Course:
Mixed media often refers to the simple combination of one type of art material with another in the same work. This course will focus more on combining different ways of thinking.
This course will explore the intersections and collisions between various media in the creation of art work in a variety of disciplines: drawing, collage, sound, text and paint. We will focus on the combination of word and image and the place where language and visual art meet. In particular, students will learn to translate one visual or linguistic expression into both another medium as well as another artistic mode) e.g. drawing into sound, poem into drawing).
Throughout the semester students will concentrate on exploring the distinction between man made materials and materials found in nature We will use the foundation of hybrid art making to understand how we create a conception of the natural world in a highly technologically driven time.
