Description of Course:
THEME for FALL 2012: Chopin and Ragtime! This class is designed for the piano student who wishes to advance after at least one semester in Piano I at UTD or who may have had prior piano training. Students must read music, have established piano technique (scales and other exercises) and have played piano repertoire from various periods. A variety of resources will be made available for individual study, including online listening materials, music dictionaries and theory software. For practice, students will have access to the keyboard lab and practice rooms. Class time will consist of lecture, demonstration, discussion, group exercises, supervised practice and performance.

Basic Principles in Pianoforte Playing by Josef Lhevinne or Piano Technique by Walter Gieseking and music to be selected during the semester.
Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:
Grading: Attendance and participation 20%, Preparation of exercises and repertoire 30%, Written assignments 20%, Recital Attendance 10%, Final Jury/Recital 20%.
