Fall 2012 - Graduate Course Descriptions
Description of Course:
PERMISSION OF INSTRUCTOR REQUIRED
"Teaching First-Year Writing" is required for doctoral students in their first semester teaching RHET 1302. The course will address several issues directly related to the practice of teaching as well as the many philosophies and theories informing pedagogical practices in composition and rhetoric. By the end of the semester, students should be able to apply composition theories to their own teaching practices as well as articulate their own philosophies of teaching writing. Students will also be able to design an undergraduate first-year writing course.
NOTE: Teaching assistants assigned to RHET 1302 for Fall 2012 and who have not previously completed this course will be given priority in enrollment. During the semester, much of the discussion will focus upon the immediate concerns of those teaching RHET 1302 for the first time.
