Elements of Art and Performance

Description of Course:

This class is an exploration of the artistic process from theoretical and societal perspectives. Readings and discussions will include the topics of music, theater, dance, visual art, film and performance art, as the class pursues important themes in creativity and performance.
Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes:
1. Students will gain experience in perceiving the elements of art and in analyzing themes and developmental techniques.
2. Students will demonstrate the ability to relate to and articulate responses to art.

Required Textbooks and Materials:1. A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink; 2. The Twentieth Century Performance Reader by Huxley and Witts; Other assigned readings will be online.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Grading Policy: Attendance/Participation (20%), Short written assignments (30%), Projects (40%), Final Project (10%).
