Course Title
Figure Drawing

Description of Course:

This is a figure drawing class for students that have had some basic drawing or painting experience. The course will cover a background introduction of the many diverse representations and applications of the human figure throughout art focusing on drawing, painting and mixed media. Students will begin with the basic simple armature and its relationship to gesture, balance and proportion employing schema variations to block out form. We will advance to more experimental adaptations of the gesture using a variety of drawing mediums including paint. We will address composition, lighting and stylistic development. This course uses live nude models provided by the school. We will critique our work intermittently as we progress. There will be a final project and notebook/sketchbook due at the end of the course. Students who are repeating this class may design their own appropriation of study and use of the model sessions.
