Music Theory I

Description of Course:

Students will acquire basic writing skills in music. Work includes written assignments in harmony and composition, analysis of representative works from the literature, keyboard harmony, ear-training, and singing in solfege.

Required Texts:

Music in Theory and Practice, Vol. I, 8th Edition (workbook included) -- Benward and Saker
(Beware used and marked-in books!)

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Students should have prior knowledge of music fundamentals. The course will begin with a short review of fundamentals (scales, key signatures, intervals, chords.)
