Spring 2014 - Graduate Course Descriptions
Description of Course:
Art making is a process of tremendous, hard worn distillation, fed by incalculable amounts and many different kinds of knowledge, work, and looking.
This course will be a studio based creative workshop. Each student will pursue their own artwork in a medium of their preference or expertise. An emphasis will be placed on developing an individual style with personal content using either painting, drawing, ink jet prints, video, or computer imaging. The student is expected to have had some prior experience in a medium of their choice (consult the instructor if unsure). A focus on various contemporary artists in visual art will be investigated and discussed throughout the semester through current readings, films and slide lectures. There will be periodic critiques of the work made by each student, along with inquiry into the formality of their making as well as the content expressed. The writing and development of an artist statement will also be assigned. There will also be one field trip to the Dallas Museum of Art.
