Description of Course:
Designed for majors and nonmajors, this course seeks to expand the student's capability for spontaneity, flexibility of thought, creativity, communication and teamwork through the use of theatre games and specifically structured improvisation exercises. No previous acting or performance experience is necessary for this course. Every level of performer or non-performer will have something to contribute and learn.
This course will apply a variety of exercises and follow a methodology developed by the instructor for the development of the performer and the creation of performance. The course will proceed in three phases 1) Body, 2) Space, and 3) Place. Each phase will introduce a foundational element in the progression of developing and comprehending performance. Each phase will explore through exercises, improvisations, and performance explorations, three themes: balance, circles, and rhythm.
Wear loose fitting clothing to class.
No textbook. Articles and other relevant materials will be available via eLearning.
Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

â€¢ Development & maintenance of a Performance workbook
â€¢ Final Performance Presentation
