Jazz 1

Description of Course:

This Beginning Jazz Dance course is designed for students who wish to develop dance technique in Jazz dance. In this class, students will study jazz dance technique at a Beginning level. Beginning Jazz dance will be taught through the practice of jazz technique and combinations of jazz movements. Students will learn jazz dance movements and jazz dance vocabulary during class sessions. This will enable them to execute movement connected together within a movement phrase at an beginning level of dance through their daily participation in class.

You are required to wear dance or workout clothing as well as jazz shoes or dance sneakers. Loose fitting street clothes are not appropriate. Acceptable attire would be tights, leotards, bike shorts, fitness tops, yoga/dance pants and fitted shorts, leggings and t-shirts. Jazz dance shoes or dance sneakers are required for this course. A Thera-band or yoga belt to class regularly for daily stretching exercises.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Students will demonstrate they have mastered technique, performance, and comprehension of material given throughout the semester by performing a short choreographed works. This Beg. Jazz class will be supplemented with attendance at performances and viewing of videos.
