Jazz I

Description of Course:

In this class, students will study jazz dance technique at a beginning level. Emphasis will be on technique development, rhythm awareness, different jazz styles, and movement combinations. There is a beauty and appeal in jazz dance that mirrors social history by reflecting ethic influences, historic events, culture changes and social events. Jazz dance has been greatly influenced by popular music and social dance forms thus creating a dance form that is uniquely American. Because of this rich history, jazz dance encompasses many styles that will be taught including; pop jazz, lyrical, musical theatre, commercial jazz, and a jazz/modern fusion. The student is expected to attend class with an open mind and an enthusiasm to learn and participate in each class.
