Description of Course:
Students will acquire basic writing and analytical skills in music. Work includes written assignments in harmony and form, analysis of representative works from the literature, ear-training, solfege singing, and keyboard harmony. Students will read, hear, sing, and play music with an understanding of harmonic and melodic functions and relationships.
Music in Theory and Practice, Vol. I, Benward and Saker (textbook and workbook).
Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:
The course begins with a quick review of music fundamentals: scales, key signatures, intervals, triads. Therefore, prior knowledge of music notation and fundamentals is recommended.
