Born in Cuba in 1952, Reina María Rodríguez has been called a "living legend" both for her writing and literary activism in the City of Havana. A two-time winner of the prestigious Casa de las Américas award, Rodríguez is the author of numerous poetry collections as well as books that bring a poet's gaze to fiction and essays.


Kristin Dykstra, a Professor of English at Illinois State University, currently holds a translation fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts for Rodríguez's 2006 collection, Catch and Release. She is the translator of Rodríguez's Time's Arrest / La detención del tiempo, and (with Nancy Gates Madsen) of Violet Island and Other Poems. Kristin Dykstra has translated books by writers Omar Pérez, Juan Carlos Flores, and Ángel Escobar, forthcoming with the University of Alabama Press.
