Carla Fehr: Overcoming Ignorance About Excellence: Improving the Representation of Women in Science and Engineering

Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m.
Venue: Jonsson Performance Hall
Admission: Free
Season: 2014-15

Abstract of the Lecture

In her talk, Carla Fehr will investigate individual and institutional barriers to advancing diversity and improving workplace cultures, and will offer strategies for overcoming these challenges. Quality of our science, medicine, and engineering institutions can only be improved if cultures of these institutions become supportive of all participants, including those people who are members of traditionally underrepresented groups. These improvements affect the ethical nature of institutions and, just as importantly, foster creative and rigorous research.
