Callbacks will be Saturday, December 13, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Callbacks will include line reading. 

Our concert version of A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim will take place in the Jonsson Performance Hall on Thursday- Sunday, April 8-12, at 8 pm on Thursday – Saturday, with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 pm. All students cast in the production must enroll in MUSI4347, which meets on Thursday nights, 7-10 pm.  Students with conflicts with any of the performance dates or Thursday nights will not be considered. There will be additional rehearsals on Saturdays and Sundays. The work will be costumes and staged.  Michael McVay, musical director.

Please prepare a musical theatre piece, no longer than 3 minutes, that best displays your singing and acting ability.  DO NOT prepare a song from A Little Night Music; those selections will be heard at callbacks.  For more information, email the director, Kathryn Evans at [email protected]

Roles are:

The Egermans

Fredrik Egerman: A successful widowed middle-aged lawyer. He is married to the 18-year-old Anne and has one son from his previous marriage, Henrik.  Baritone, Lead.

Anne Egerman: Fredrik's new, naive wife.  Soprano, lead.

Henrik Egerman: Fredrik's son, 20 years old and Anne's stepson. He is serious but confused, as he reads the works of philosophers and theologians as he studies for the Lutheran priesthood.

The Armfeldts

Desiree Armfeldt: Self-absorbed, once-successful actress, now touring the country-side in what is clearly not the "glamorous life". Mezzo. Lead.

Fredrika Armfeldt: Desiree's thirteen-year-old daughter, who may or may not be the product (unbeknownst to Fredrik) of the actress's and Fredrik's affair. Mezzo. Supporting

Madame Armfeldt: Desiree's mother, who has had "liaisons" with royalty. Alto. Supporting. (NOTE: This role has been cast.)

The Malcolms

Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm: A military dragoon who is Desiree's latest lover.Baritone. Supporting.

Charlotte Malcolm: Carl-Magnus' wife. Mezzo. Supporting.

The Servants (The “Liebeslieder Singers”)

The Quintet: Mr. Lindquist (baritone), Mrs. Nordstrom (mezzo), Mrs. Anderssen (mezzo), Mr. Erlanson (tenor) and Mrs. Segstrom (soprano). A group of five singers that act as a Greek chorus.  Members of the quintet will also understudy lead and supporting roles.  

Petra: Anne's maid and closest confidante. Mezzo.  Supporting.

Non-singing roles (will understudy chorus roles)

Frid: Madame Armfeldt's manservant.

Malla: Desiree's maid, with her constantly.

Osa: Maid at Madame Armfeldt's manse.

Bertrand: Page at Madame  Armfeldt's manse.
