Pianist Gorden Cheng was a semi-finalist in the 2016 Cliburn Amateur Competition, and he has received awards in competitions in Paris (2011), Chicago (2012), Colorado Springs (2012), Warsaw (2012), Washington, D.C. (2012), and Boston (2015).  He has an extensive repertoire, and he concertizes regularly.  Cheng received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2003 from the University of Texas at Dallas, where he performed with the Musica Nova ensemble under the direction of Robert Xavier Rodríguez.  Cheng exemplifies UT Dallas’ strong connection between the arts and the sciences, as he continues his high-level musical pursuits while maintaining a distinguished career in technology as Director of Information Security for Oracle in San Diego, CA.  Cheng will perform two towering masterpieces of the piano literature:  Schumann's Kreisleriana and Schubert's Fantasie in C Major (“Wanderer”).
