Piano Performance: Mikhail Berestnev

Our new accompanist Mikhail Berestnev will be giving a solo recital on piano. Bio: Pianist Mikhail Berestnev was born to a family of musicians, and he made his solo debut with the Symphony Orchestra of Rostov at the age of 11. Other performances include concerts at the International Music House in Moscow, the Sydney Opera House (Sydney Symphony), Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro (Symphony Orchestra of Brazil), Flagey Theatre in Brussels (Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia) and performances with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, San Angelo Symphony and TCU Symphony. He has also performed throughout Russia under the auspices of the International Music Fund under the baton of Maestro Vladimir Spivakov. In 2006 he graduated from the Gnessin State Music College, and in 2011 he graduated from the Russian Academy of Music. His teachers in Russia were Irina Grebenkina, Andrey Khitruk, Lyudmila Alekseeva, Alexey Skavronsky, Vladimir Tropp, Leonid Block, Olga Kondratieva, Elena Strikovskaya. He is currently studying with Tamás Ungár at the Texas Christian University School of Music. His Competition awards include a Gold Medal at the International Delphic Games in 2008; “Best performance of Russian Composers at the 10th Sydney International Competition of Australia in 2012; “Best performer of Brazilian Music” at the third BNDES International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro in 2012; “Overall Winner” at the Sorantin International Competition in 2012; semifinalist on Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition 2013 in Brussels; and prizes in the International Stanislav Neuhaus Piano Competition 2010 in Russia; the 58th Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona; and in the Texas and New York competitions of the American MTNA. In 2012, he was awarded the Judith Solomon Piano Award in Chamber Music from Texas Christian University. Mikhail Berestnev is also active in chamber music. He has appeared with the “Seraphim Trio” (Melbourne, Australia), the San Paulo City String Quartet, the Odysseus String Quartet (USA), violinist Ayako Tanabe (Japan), Curt Thompson (USA-Australia) as well as with musicians from leading Russian Orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre and the ensembles “Moscow Virtuosi” and “Musica Viva.” His performances have been broadcast on WQXP Radio, ABC Classic FM and WRR.
