Writer and translator Ken Liu will present “Betrayal With Integrity: Conformance and Estrangement in Translating Chinese Science Fiction,” a discussion of the origin of Chinese science fiction through translation of Western works, his translation of The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, and his own novel, The Grace of Kings. Cixin Liu’s novel is the first Chinese novel to receive America's Hugo Award — one of the most prestigious honors for science fiction. Ken Liu’s short story “The Paper Menagerie” is the first to receive the Nebula, Hugo and World Fantasy awards in the same year. This lecture is offered in partnership with the Center for Values in Medicine, Science and Technology and The Center for Translation.
