Reception: Friday, January 20th, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Ciara Bryant: Incorporating text, photographs, and objects to engage and inform the reader/viewer, Invisible conveys the struggle of being invisible while black and female by exploring themes of power and femininity as well as the objectiveness of black women in society. Ashley Poenisch: Paneled Progress is a collection of works that elevates the comic format by exploring narrative potential through traditional and non-traditional media. Kelsey Webb: Altered Gaze is a series of highly saturated self-portraits that explore the relationship between the subject and viewer by altering or concealing the eyes of the female subject. The artist aims to raise awareness of viewers’ relationships to mediated imagery and their consumption of it. Bios: Ciara Elle Bryant uses the photograph in different mediums to explore the realms of social injustice and bring awareness to cultural issues. Born in Miami Florida, Bryant is a fine art photographer residing in Dallas, Texas where she recently received her Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Performance with a concentration in Visual Arts from The University of Texas at Dallas. Ashley Poenisch is an illustrator and comic artist from a dot on the map named Jourdanton, TX. She attended UT at Dallas where she received an Arts and Performance degree with a focus on Visual Arts. She works in both digital and traditional painting (usually acrylic and watercolor). Her work focuses on narrative, specifically fairy and folk tales. Kelsey Webb is a Dallas/Fort Worth photographer from East Texas. She received her undergrad degree in Arts and Performance with a concentration in Visual Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas. Kelsey’s work focuses on the representation of the female body through an emphasis on the self-portrait; she relies on color and design to transform her photographs.
