An Evening with Goethe

Thursday, April 20, 2017, 7:00 p.m.
Venue: Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO)
Season: 2016-2017

Brought to you by the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies and The Dallas Goethe Center. In the English-speaking world Goethe is one of the most familiar names but least read poets in the canon of the world's greatest writers. He is notoriously hard to translate: if his music is missing, his magic is too, and the verbal and emotional magic must not be sacrificed to the music. Dr. Zsuzsanna Ozsvath and Dr. Frederick Turner, veteran prizewinning translators, have created an anthology of Goethe's lyrics that attempts to bring his music and his magic together into a performable script in elegant modern English. After the recitation there will be an opportunity for questions and discussions, followed by a networking reception in the Ackerman Center (JO 4.800).
