VPA degree with Music Concentration

The BA in Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) with Concentration in Music allows students to develop a strong musical background through private study of their primary instrument or voice, along with music theory and history/literature. Opportunities to perform include solo performance, chamber music and large ensembles. Other courses in the Bass School broaden one’s perspectives beyond music, including an interdisciplinary Writing in the Arts course.

Music Minor

The Music Minor gives students a range of choices among the courses and ensembles at UT Dallas. Two lower-division courses are required: Music Theory I and Music in Western Civilization. After that, students take two additional classes in theory, history, or digital music, along with six additional credit hours of ensemble participation and/or class study of voice, guitar or piano. Private study may also be available through audition and subject to availability.

Graduate Studies

The Graduate Program in the Humanities (MA, PhD) fosters integrated study and practice of the arts, literature, history and philosophy. Music may be an emphasis of the Aesthetic Studies track.
