- Rhythmic accuracy
- Sound quality
- Work ethic
The audition music is included in the audition packet, which for copyright reasons will only be available in eLearning. Upon receiving your registration form, you will be added to the Drumline/Percussion Ensemble organization in eLearning, thus giving you access to the packet.
All drums and cymbals will be provided: 5 snares, 3 tenors, 5 basses, and 5 cymbals. Every student must bring his or her own sticks, music, and a practice pad. We will not have extra sticks or music for you to use. Part of the audition will take place outside, so be sure your music is secured in a binder.
If you are auditioning for snare or tenors, and can bring your own drum(s) and a stand, you will play on that drum for the duration of the audition. Otherwise, students will rotate in and out to accommodate the limited number of instruments that UTD owns. If you are auditioning for bass drum, please do not bring your own drum. We can only listen to a maximum of five people at a time.
Though snares will ultimately play traditional on a tilted drum, snare drummers may audition playing matched or traditional grip, flat or tilted, whichever you are most comfortable.
A completed UTD Drumline Recommendation Form filled out and submitted by your band director, private lesson teacher, or battery tech. Students who provide this form will be given extra consideration. For more information, fill out the 2018 UTD Drumline Audition Registration Form.

*There is no front ensemble. Sorry. If mallets, drum set, and/or concert percussion are your thing and you do not wish to play a battery instrument, then check out the various performing ensembles UTD has to offer. Also, percussion ensemble takes place during the spring semester. Percussion Ensemble will be listed in CourseBook as “MUSI 3181: Instrumental Ensemble II - Percussion Ensemble” when the Spring 2019 Course Offerings are published.
