Three Former Athletes Join UTD Staff
Recent Graduates Hired For Three Assistant Coaching Positions

Three former University of Texas at Dallas student-athletes have joined the UTD coaching staff as assistant coaches, UTD Athletic Director Chris Gage has announced. Sarah Arldt who was an award-winning softball player for the Comets from 2003-2006, is the new Assistant Softball Coach and Head Women's Cross Country Coach. Katie Johnson, who set a number of school goalkeeping records for UTD from 2001-2004, has joined the staff as an Assistant Women's Soccer and Tennis Coach. Jason Hirsch, a member on UTD's 2004 American Southwest Conference men's soccer championship team, is the new Assistant Men's Soccer and Tennis Coach. All three begin their duties this month.

"These young people are all quality individuals who were integral parts of their programs and true team leaders as student-athletes," Gage said. "Now that they are graduates, we are pleased to be able to help them begin their professional coaching careers; and our programs will benefit from their background and experience as well."

Arldt, who won numerouse conference and regional awards as a player during her four-year career, assisted UTD head softball coach Kim Sotomayor as a graduate assistant last season. A native of Katy, TX and a 2002 graduate of Mayde Creek HS, she earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from UTD in 2006.

Johnson set a school record by playing in 81 games during her four-year career at UTD. A multiple She also holds several UTD school records and was voted all-conference and all-region at goalkeeper three consecutive years. She was the Comets' goalie during UTD's 2002 ASC Championship season. A 2001 graduate of Irving (TX) MacArthure HS, Johnson graduated with a psychology degree from UTD in 2005 and has worked in the business world for the past two years.

Hirsch was a team captain and first-team all-conference midfielder for the Comets during the team's 2004 ASC Championship season, then served as a volunteer coach in 2005. A native of Plano, TX, he graduated from Plano West HS in 2001. He earned a finance degree from UTD in 2005 and worked for a financial services firm for the past year.
