UT Dallas' Athletes of the Year and Athletics' Annual Awards Banquet

RICHARDSON, TX - Senior women's soccer standout Kelli Jackson (pictured, near right) and graduate pitching ace Mark Cox (pictured, far right) were named the UT Dallas Athletic Department's Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year at the department's annual end-of-year awards banquet on Wednesday, April 30.

Jackson, a highly decorated, four-year starter for the Comets women's soccer team, was a four-time recipient of the American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year. During her tenure at UTD, Jackson won first-team, all-conference honors four times and was instrumental on a string of 53 shutouts and 60 victories over her career.

Cox, also a four-year member of the UTD baseball team, had become the staff ace the last two seasons, helping lead UTD to the NCAA West Regional Tournament in 2007. In the last two seasons, he won 22 games and struck out 164 opposing batters, working his way into the UTD record book by throwing the first no-hitter in school history earlier this season.

A pair of UTD basketball players—junior Ernie Lowery and senior Ericka Baker—were also named as UTD's Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Lowery and Baker were not only two of the top academic achievers on their respective teams, but among the top players on the court as well. Each was among the leading scorers on their teams and received Academic All-District recognition earlier this year. The duo were among more than 60 UTD student-athletes who received American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference recognition in 2007-08.

In addition to the major awards, the coach of each individual UTD athletic team presented awards for their Most Valuable Player, Comet Award and several individual awards. Student-athletes who won all-conference and other honors during the year were recognized with an ongoing slide show during the dinner portion of the banquet. Graduating senior student-athletes were presented with commemorative UTD blankets at the end of the program.
