Director's Corner

Erin Dougherty

I am amazed at how fast the time has flown. This month marks one year that I've been serving as the Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at UT Dallas, and two years since our first issue of the Alumni Link went live.

The Alumni Link was a huge deal to us when we first got it up and running because it marked the first consistent communications from the University to all alumni. We were dedicated then, and remain just as dedicated now, to ensuring that we communicate timely and targeted information to the many UT Dallas alumni around the world. The Link is a cornerstone to everything else that we do in the office, because regular communications that keep you informed about what's going on at UT Dallas and with your fellow alumni are key to keeping all of us engaged with our alma mater. I'm so proud of how the Link has evolved, much thanks to our wonderful student web developer, Tina. Take a look at it's evolution by reading through the archives.

Like the Link, in the past year alumni relations at UT Dallas has changed a lot. We've added more changes, more alumni benefits, more opportunities to serve, more possibilities for networking, and more excuses to get together and have a good time, than ever before. My two big priorities for 2009 are to identify more opportunities for alumni to be involved with UT Dallas and to create a stronger alumni network. With these two goals, you'll see networking and volunteer opportunities like the Regional Representatives network, mentoring, and alumni volunteer events mentioned frequently, but you'll also see more of us asking you what you want out of your alumni experience. We need to hear from you to make sure we're on target with the benefits, events, and communications you want.

I appreciate so much the opportunity to serve UT Dallas and all UT Dallas alumni, and look forward to a 2009 full of challenges and opportunities. Thank you to every alum who has attended an event, called in with a suggestion, taken the time to read this newsletter, or in their own way spread the word about the amazing university that is our alma mater. Every day, we're helping UT Dallas create the future.
