Missile-ruined buildings and Baghdad International Airport were a constant backdrop for Dilks during his time in Iraq.

After the successful kickoff of “Memories on the Mall” at the December 2010 graduation, UT Dallas will offer an expanded program to welcome its newest alumni at next month’s ceremonies.

The program will be held on the campus mall and chess plaza, where graduates can take advantage of photo opportunities, receive a special gift and collect their Comet alumni benefits card.

During his time in Baghdad, Dilks worked with some of the highest-ranking military commanders, including David H. Petraeus, Commanding General of Multi-National Forces in Iraq

“Each of the seven schools will be there to congratulate and welcome our new grads. We’ll also have lots of giveaways, refreshments and music for the celebration,” said Director of Alumni Relations Erin Dougherty. The festivities will immediately follow each graduation ceremony. “This new tradition welcomes graduates into the alumni community right after they receive their diploma and highlights this major accomplishment in their lives,” Dougherty said.
