Comets Soak in the Sounds at Signature Summer Event

Nearly 200 alumni, family and friends gathered recently for the University’s Signature Summer Event at the Dallas Arboretum.

“I love thinking about my time at the University,” said Suzie Kuddes MS’82, noting that the event made her feel appreciated and connected to UT Dallas.

Kimberly Flicker MS’13, MBA’13 and Blair Flicker MBA’12 enjoy the summer evening with their daughter.

The celebration included dinner at the arboretum’s Alex Camp House and terrace overlooking White Rock Lake, and concluded with an outdoor concert featuring Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction. Blair Flicker MBA’12 attended the event with his family, noting their ongoing support for UT Dallas.

“Are we at home watching the game? Certainly not,” he said. “We’re at the UT Dallas alumni signature event at the Dallas Arboretum, because we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Melinda Mendoza, senior director of Alumni Relations, and a group of children perform the Whoosh, the signature sign of Comet unity, at the event.

In addition to offering alumni and guests an evening to celebrate their Comet pride, the annual event also benefits Comet Cupboard, a food pantry dedicated to helping students in need.

Camden Cornwell BS’13 attended the event with Monica Niewiarowski BA’13. The two met as McDermott Scholars at UT Dallas.

“It’s 95 degrees, but I’m still here having a great time at the alumni signature event,” Cornwell said.
