Observation of Trifles

Keynote Speaker
Alexandra Horowitz
Author and adjunct associate professor at Barnard College, Columbia University
Author and adjunct associate professor at Barnard College, Columbia University Horowitz discusses the project that led to her book, On Looking, an investigation into learning to see details -- trifles -- that most of us have stopped seeing. By taking dozens of walks around “ordinary” city blocks with experts on varying subjects, she and her companions consider the block -- the street and everything on it -- as a living being that could be examined, diagnosed, and seen anew. The result of these walks was tangible: they changed not just what she did see, but what she could see.
