Between Here and Cool: Creative PhD Exhibition: Diane Durant

Opening Reception
Saturday July 6, 7:00 pm

Jack Kerouac said it: "The road is life." As Americans, we drive; and the road trip, as both freedom and exploration, is a very American notion. Like the great documentarians and postmodern storytellers who have gone before, Diane Durant explores the relationship between image and text, between the road and the weary traveler, in this creative PhD exhibition. Based on her doctoral research of the American road story and her own 18-day trip around the country—from Cool, Texas to Cool, California to Cool, Iowa and home again—Between Here and Cool takes the viewer along for the ride, displaying photographs, coffee mugs, a punctured tire, and other road trip ephemera as documentation of the experience and proof of Durant's interaction with the American landscape and the American Dream. This is a true road story. Exhibition runs through July 27.
