Genetic Analysis of Immunity: Anson Clark Memorial Lecture Technical Talk

Day 2 of the Anson L. Clark Memorial Lecture.

This research talk is intended for faculty, postdocs, graduate or advanced undergraduate students, visiting scientists, etc. 

Dr. Bruce Beutler is director of the Center for the Genetics of Host Defense and holder of the Raymond and Ellen Willie Distinguished Chair in Cancer Research at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

His discovery of how the innate immune system recognizes and responds to infection in mammals earned him a share of the 2011 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. Beutler received his medical degree from the University of Chicago at the age of 23, and after a residency at UT Southwestern, he served on the faculty of Rockefeller University. In 1986, he became a faculty member and Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator at UT Southwestern, where he conducted his groundbreaking research on the immune system. In 2000, he moved to the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif. He returned to UT Southwestern’s faculty in 2011. A member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine, before receiving the Nobel Prize, he also won the Shaw Prize and the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research, among many other honors.
