The Office of Diversity and Community Engagement and Galerstein Gender Center presents "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day"
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, or Girl Day, is an annual pre-college program with the intent to educate girls on what engineering is, to show them how engineers are changing the world and to dispel myths on who can be an engineer. In its 9th year, the Galerstein Gender Center partners with the Department of Community Engagement, Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, Texas Instruments Women’s Initiative and the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering for a four-hour program of hands-on, relevant, age appropriate, fun activities, which are led by student leaders at UT Dallas. The event also includes lunch and roundtable discussions with professional engineers from the TI Women’s Initiative
The success of the program depends on volunteers from various disciplines at UT Dallas, student organizations and graduate research assistants. Volunteers will:
- Serve as role models throughout the day and during lunch roundtable discussions
- Answer participants’ questions about engineering and UT Dallas
- Welcome students when they arrive at UT Dallas
- Lead activities
