Sips of Science: One Nation Under Rum

Why do Americans remember the Tea Party but forget the Whiskey Rebellion? Dr. Eric Schlereth answers this question by exploring the unfamiliar history of alcohol’s influence on early American society. From the rum fueled colonial economy and the taverns that incubated a revolution to the relationship between drinking habits and democracy, come learn about the many ways that alcohol flows through early American history.

Sips of Science is a community outreach program organized by The University of Texas at Dallas Office of Graduate Studies. Sips of Science events are free and open to the public and usually occur each month at Plano Kitchen and Bar (formerly Angela’s at the Crosswalk). Drinks are on you. Knowledge is on us.
