Do you know about the Tignon law of 1786 that took
place in New Orleans, Louisiana? It was a law forcing all
women of African descendant to wear a head scarf in
order to oppress their beauty and mobility.
Heart of the Headwrap is an interactive workshop that
explores the North American history behind the
headwrap as it relates to the Tignon law of 1786 in
Louisiana. In addition, participants will learn styling
techniques that embody characteristics meant to oppress:
Beauty, Intelligence, and Adaptability.*
