Lynn Hershman Leeson knows how to hack reality. From the real world avatar Roberta Breitmore (1970s) to the proto-AI agents Ruby (2002) and DiNA (2004) and the self-replicating automatons of Teknolust (2003), Hershman Leeson’s art shifts the boundaries of thought separating the invented and the actual. Drawing on her works, representatives of PIRL, FIVE Lab, and CultSciLab will facilitate a discussion about how technologies intervene in the world and how those who collaborate to design them can do so more responsibly and powerfully.
