Communicating Across Cultures, featuring Jean-luc Doumont
Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019
2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Location: FA 2.206

Communicating with people from another culture can be disconcerting: we take so many things for granted in our own culture that we easily experience anything else as weird. Still, looking for similarities among cultures is often a more effective basis for understanding one another than focusing on differences. Dismissing the simplistic advice that, when in Rome, you must do as the Romans do, this lecture tackles deeper constituents of human relationships, such as values, respect, and trust.
