Gram Determinants in Knot Theory

My talk will be devoted to Gram determinants motivated by and used in knot theory. The story starts with Raymond Lickorish’s attempt to give a simple combinatorial description of Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants for closed, oriented 3-dimensional manifolds. This led to Gram determinants of type A. In 2000, Rodica Simion speculated on the form for type B Gram determinant. The exact formula for this determinant was conjectured by Dabkowski, Przytycki and Barad in 2003 and proved later by Qi Chen and the speaker. In my talk I will also describe Gram determinant based on gluing Möbius bands into the Klein bottle (with 5 nonhomotopic simple closed curves). My talk will fi…nish by outlining work with my students (Rhea, Dionne, Sujoy) on Temperley-Lieb Gram determinant of 2-variables.
