2020 RAW Graduate Conference

The Arts & Humanities Graduate Student Association of the University of Texas at Dallas will hold its twelfth annual graduate symposium on February 22nd at the UTD campus in Richardson, Texas. The RAW: Research, Art, and Writing Conference is organized by and for graduate students and offers an opportunity for scholars to share their work and ideas with peers across the humanities disciplines.


Saturday, February 22nd: RAW Conference from 9:00-4:00 p.m.

Check-in will be located on the JO 4th Floor Lobby.

            Session 1 9:00-10:00 a.m.

            Session 2 10:00-11:10 a.m.

            Session 3: 11:30a.m.-12:30 p.m.

"Answering Alcuin’s Question: The ‘Heroic Strain’ in 21st Century America"

“Alcuin’s question” calls attention to a dynamic tension at the heart of western culture: - the continuing, often creative and occasionally disruptive necessity to reconcile two apparently incompatible ethical systems: the warrior ethos depicted in “heroic” narratives such as the Iliad and ideals formally associated with Christianity.
