Emotional Intelligence Practicum Part 3 - Understanding Others Wednesday, Mar 21
(2 p.m. - 4 p.m.)

Description: In the first two practicum sessions, our focus was on self:  (1) Know Yourself and (2) Manage Yourself.  With this third session, our attention now shifts to others.  More specifically, we will examine the third core competency of emotional intelligence—social awareness.  In his seminal work, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” Steven R. Covey described highly effective persons as those who “seek first to understand, then to be understood.”  Those are good words and can serve as a basis for our discussion and discovery during this session. For this practicum, we will focus on learning to paying attention to the emotional cues that others send out and then ways we can use this information to adjust our behavior accordingly.  Our learning goals for this session include:

  1. Being able to identify and describe social awareness when seen in self and others.
  2. Learning and reviewing some basic competencies related to social awareness.
  3. Identifying  key skills and practice areas for improving social awareness skills
  4. Challenging you to create a personal action plan for improving your social awareness skills.
