All scholarship recipients must qualify for and play for the UT Dallas Chess Team, participate in Chess Club community service activities and follow the Chess Team rules. Undergraduate and graduate recipients also have additional academic requirements.

Academic Requirements

Undergraduate scholarship recipients must:

  • Earn a 3.0 GPA or better each semester and a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better at the conclusion of each academic year; and
  • Complete a minimum of 15 unique UT Dallas credit hours per semester; and
  • Complete the following amount of credit hours by each academic year:
    • 30 unique UT Dallas credit hours before the conclusion of their freshman academic year;
    • 60 unique UT Dallas credit hours before the conclusion of their sophomore academic year;
    • 90 unique UT Dallas credit hours before the conclusion of their junior academic year;
    • 120 unique UT Dallas credit hours before the conclusion of their senior academic year.

Graduate scholarship recipients must:

  • Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0; and
  • Complete at least 9 graduate hours each semester.

Please note: Only unique credit hours will be calculated each semester. This means hours repeated for course credit will only be counted once.

Termination

Chess Scholarship students must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and complete a total of 30 unique UT Dallas credit hours each academic year. Students that do not meet both of these requirements are subject to termination.

Chess Scholarship Student Success Program

The Chess Scholarship Student Success Program was created to engage Chess Scholarship students who may not be on track to meet the Chess Scholarship academic requirements necessary to maintain their scholarship. At the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, students who have not met the program academic requirements are placed in the Chess Scholarship Student Success Program. The Chess Scholarship Student Success Program is a requirement for every student who does not meet the Chess Scholarship academic requirements at the conclusion of a semester.
