Scholarships and Fellowships

Scholarships are subject to fund availability. The following scholarships and fellowships are offered through the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. Additional awards for which EPPS students may qualify can be found on the University’s Scholarship Listing or through the Office of Financial Aid. The amount of the awards may vary from year-to-year with a minimum of $500 to be distributed with each award.

All applications will be accepted through the online process by selecting the scholarship or fellowship link below.  You will need your UTD Net ID and password to log onto the site.  Incomplete or inaccurate applications may not be considered.  No paper applications will be accepted. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8.

Global Engagement Scholarship

The Global Engagement Scholarship supports undergraduate students in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS) at UT Dallas as they study abroad. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and full-time undergraduate students in EPPS with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Applicants must be enrolled in a UT Dallas course with a study abroad component or enrolled in a study abroad program that transfers credit back to UT Dallas during the semester the student receives the Global Engagement Scholarship. 

Government and Political Science Scholarship

The Government and Political Science Scholarship was established in 2019 by the Political Science faculty. The scholarship is awarded to full- or part-time undergraduate students studying Political Science with a minimum GPA of 2.8. The amount of the award is $1,000. EPPS students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or international students are invited to apply.

Jeanne Glorioso Scholarship

The Jeanne Glorioso Scholarship was established in 2015 to support full-time undergraduate students in EPPS who have demonstrated financial need. Among equally qualified applicants, there is a preference for those who have overcome economic barriers in pursuit of their degree and/or are single parents or guardians. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

McLovin Scholarship

The McLovin Scholarship supports undergraduate students in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS) at UT Dallas. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents or international students with at least a 2.994 cumulative GPA. Applicants may be incoming first-year students or transfer students, and may be enrolled part-time or full-time. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by either completing a financial statement or FAFSA. Applicants must be employed part-time or full-time while pursuing their degree at UT Dallas. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who received all or part of their preparatory education outside of the state of Texas.

Charles C. McKinney Scholarship

The Charles C. McKinney Endowed Scholarship was established in 2005 by Mr. McKinney who continues to help the fund grow with yearly gifts. Mr. McKinney received his Master’s degree from the School of Management in 1991. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in economics, with an emphasis on the study of free markets and economic growth. Students must have completed a minimum of 60 hours of course work, demonstrate financial need and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Fred Hill Endowed Scholarship

The Fred Hill Endowed Scholarship for Public Service was established in 2009 to honor Fred Hill, Texas Legislator from 1988 to 2008. Representative Hill, a long-time supporter of education in Texas, was an avid supporter of UT Dallas during his twenty years as a Texas Legislator. Mr. Hill supported legislation that allowed UT Dallas to authorize the admission of freshmen students in 1990 and legislation that resulted in the building of the Natural Science and Engineering and Research building. Mr. Hill regularly welcomed students to his office at the state Capitol and hosted events in their honor. He also routinely employed students or alums, either as staff or as interns. Donors to the Hill Scholarship included UT Dallas administrators, local business leaders and companies. A student award is made annually. The scholarship supports an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in political science, public affairs, public policy and political economy. The student must exhibit community leadership, dedication to education, and a strong desire to make Texas a better place for all of its citizens; characteristics exhibited by Fred Hill.

GXA Cares Scholarship

The GXA Cares Scholarship/Fellowship was established in 2018 by GXA, a local IT solutions company based in Richardson and co-founded by a UT Dallas alumna. GXA is committed to serving the next generation by investing their profits and resources into good works that create, support and sustain a better community and a brighter future. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need and at least a 3.2 GPA, pursuing a degree in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences or the Naveen Jindal School of Management. Applicants should submit documentation with their application that verifies that they’ve completed at least 16 hours of community service within the last 12 months. 

Irving J. Hoch Scholarship

The Irving J. Hoch Scholarship was established in 2005 to honor one of UT Dallas’ most distinguished and beloved professors, Dr. Irving J Hoch. Dr. Hoch is known as the “Father of Fixed-effect Modeling.” At UT Dallas he was a winner of the Polycarp Kusch Award, the Chancellor’s Council Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Students’ Choice Outstanding Teacher. The scholarship was funded by gifts from Dr. Hoch’s faculty colleagues, former students and friends and is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Economics, Political and Policy Sciences, preferably to students in the field of economics.

James Scott International Experiences Fund

The James Scott International Experiences fund was established by alumnus James Scott to provide support for international student travel and study abroad experiences for students in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.

John Forrest Kain Scholarship

The John Forrest Kain Endowed Scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of Dr. John Kain and funded by gifts from Dr. Kain’s family, faculty colleagues, former students and friends. Dr. Kain held the Cecil Green Chair for Science in Society and served the director of the Green Center and the Texas School Project at the time of his death. Prior to relocating to Dallas, Dr. Kain was a professor at Harvard for over 30 years. He is remembered as a distinguished professor and one of the first great urban economists. The scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.

Officer Bernard F. Parson Scholarship

The Officer Bernard F. Parson Scholarship was established in memory of Officer Parson, who served on the UT Dallas police department from February 1, 2001, until his untimely death in a car accident on May 25, 2003. Officer Parson believed that young people furthered themselves and society through education. His dedication to his family, his community, and UT Dallas will be perpetually honored through this endowment. The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who is interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Douglas J. Watson Fellowship

The Douglas J. Watson Fellowship was established by alumni and faculty of the Public and Nonprofit Management (formerly Public Affairs) program to honor Dr. Watson, who was a Professor of Public Affairs at UT Dallas from 2004 until his retirement in 2010. His service to the Public and Nonprofit Management program also includes serving as the program head for four years. Prior to joining UT Dallas, Dr. Watson had a distinguished career in city management, including serving 21 years as the City Manager for the City of Auburn, AL. He is a veteran of the United States Army. Recipients may be part-time or full-time students pursuing a graduate degree in the Public and Nonprofit Management program, or students pursuing a graduate certificate in the Public and Nonprofit Management program.

Government and Political Science Fellowship

The Government and Political Science Fellowship was established in 2019 by the Political Science faculty. The scholarship is awarded to full- or part-time graduate students studying PoliticalScience, International Political Economy, Public Policy, or Public Policy and Political Economy with a minimum GPA of 2.8. The amount of the award is $1,000. EPPS students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or international students are invited to apply.

Vibhooti Shukla Graduate Fellowship

The Vibhooti Shukla Graduate Fellowship was established in 1993 by her husband, Satchit Srinivasan, friends and colleagues in memory of Professor Vibhooti Shukla. Professor Shukla was a member of the faculty in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS) at the time of her death in a ballooning accident. The graduate fellowship award will be made available to graduate students in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.

Keith Lankford Taylor Fellowship

The Keith Lankford Taylor Fellowship was established in 2012 and will be used to support one or more graduate students. Qualified students will be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral degree program in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences and may receive the fellowship in successive year, provided they demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward their degree.

Larry D. Terry Scholarship

The Larry D. Terry Emerging Leaders Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of Dr. Larry D. Terry and funded by gifts from Dr. Terry’s family, faculty colleagues, former students and friends. At the time of his unexpected death in June 2006, Dr. Terry was serving as vice president of business affairs at UT Dallas. Dr. Terry was a renowned scholar in the fields of public administration and political science, as well as an acclaimed author. He was a professor in public administration in the School of Social Sciences, later to become the School of Economics, Political, and Policy Sciences. During his tenure at UT Dallas he also served as executive vice provost for academic affairs. The scholarship is awarded to graduate students seeking a Masters of Public Affairs or a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Affairs in the School of Economics, Political and Policy Sciences. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Rita Mae Kelly Scholarship

The Rita Mae Kelly Scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of Dr. Kelly, who served as Dean of the School of Social Sciences (currently EPPS) from 1996-2001. Applicants should be graduate students, with preference for doctoral students, studying areas that interested Dr. Kelly, including gender and politics, public policy, public affairs and public administration.
