Welcome Message from the Program Head

On behalf of the Public and Nonprofit Management faculty and staff, I welcome you to our website. Doug Goodman The Public and Nonprofit Management program offers an undergraduate and two graduate degrees that are geared toward students who are interested in careers in government and nonprofit settings or those in the business world who work closely with government or nonprofit organizations.

The undergraduate degree in public affairs provides students with the basic knowledge and skills that are needed to have successful careers in the public service including government and nonprofit organizations. Also, the undergraduate curriculum provides a quality foundation for students who would like to continue their education in graduate school.

The Master of Public Affairs (MPA) degree provides students with critical thinking, leadership, and research skills necessary to lead in tomorrow’s public service fields such as government, nonprofit organizations, and public policy evaluation. We are especially proud of our expertise in local government management, nonprofit management, and public human resource management. Many of our faculty members have worked in federal, state, and local government settings. Public and Nonprofit Management graduates typically find employment in city, county, state and federal government, nonprofit organizations, think-tanks, as well as private firms that work with the public sector. Many of our graduates hold prestigious positions throughout Texas, the United States, and abroad.

The Ph.D. degree provides advanced graduate training for students who are interested in acquiring advanced graduate research and critical thinking skills that will allow then to purse jobs in colleges and universities throughout the world. Our Ph.D. program also provides advanced curriculum for practitioners who would like to master more advanced skills than those offered by an MPA degree.

The Public and Nonprofit Management program at UT Dallas currently includes eleven faculty members with wide-ranging research interests, active grant seeking agendas, and research projects that are funded by top federal grantors such as the National Science Foundation and the United States Department of Justice. Dr. Paul Battaglio is the Editor-in-chief and Dr. Doug Goodman is the Associate Editor for Practitioner Outreach of the Review of Public Personnel Administration (ROPPA), a highly-ranked peer-reviewed journal of the American Society for Public Administration that publishes research on human resource management and administration in public organizations. In 2018, Dr. Paul Battaglio will be an editor-in-chief of Public Administration Review (PAR), a leading professional journal in public administration research, theory and practice.
